THIRD COMMITTEE DISCUSSES WAYS TO PROTECT CHILDREN CORRECTION

On page 10 of Press Release GA/SHC/3537 issued 27 October, the statement of the representative of Iraq should read:

The representative of Iraq said his country consisted of north, central and south. The north was under the control of the United States and the United Kingdom. The amount allocated to the north in the “oil- for-food” programme was higher than the amount allocated to the middle and the south. Furthermore, the north was open to neighbouring countries and that position enabled it to trade and exchange commodities without any restrictions. For those reasons, the situation of the children in the north was better than in the rest of the country. Also, he denied rumours that food and medicine in his country were being stockpiled, instead of distributed. He praised the work of UNICEF in his country.
