SECURITY COUNCIL REFERS EAST TIMOR’S APPLICATION FOR UN MEMBERSHIP

TO ADMISSION COMMITTEE

The Security Council this evening decided to refer the application of the Democratic Republic of East Timor to the Committee on the Admission of New Members, for the examination and report of that body.

Council President S. Jayakumar of Singapore proposed, in addition, that the Committee on the Admission of New Members meet tomorrow, 23 May, at 10 a.m. to consider the application (contained in document A/56/953-S/2002/558, issued

20 May).

The meeting opened at 9:34 p.m. and closed at 9:35 p.m.
