SECURITY COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ON ETHIOPIA AND ERITREA

The following is a Security Council press statement on Ethiopia and Eritrea, delivered today by the President of the Council, Andrey I. Denisov ( Russian Federation):

Members of the Council heard an oral briefing from Ambassador Kenzo Oshima of Japan on his findings during his visit to Ethiopia and Eritrea from 6 to 9 November 2005, in his capacity as Chairman of the Working Group on Peacekeeping Operations of the Security Council, during informal consultations on 11 November 2005.

Members of the Council express their appreciation for the information gathered by Ambassador Oshima and look forward to his written report, which will be given careful and thorough study.

Members of the Council once again express their deep appreciation for the contribution and dedication of the troop-contributing countries to the work of the United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE).
