SECRETARY-GENERAL STRONGLY CONDEMNS FATAL BOMB ATTACK ON LEBANESE SECURITY OFFICER

Secretary-General strongly condemns fatal bomb attack on Lebanese security officer

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General strongly condemns the terrorist attack today in Lebanon that reportedly killed an officer of the Internal Security Forces and five others, and injured 20.  He extends his sincere condolences to the families of those killed and the Government of Lebanon.

This latest act of terror should not be allowed to undermine the security, stability and sovereignty of Lebanon.  The Secretary-General reiterates his call on the people of Lebanon to continue exercising restraint and for those behind this and previous attacks to be brought to justice.
