SECERETARY-GENERAL WELCOMES ADOPTION OF 2006-2007 BUDGET

SECERETARY-GENERAL WELCOMES ADOPTION OF 2006-2007 BUDGET

The following statement by UN Secretary-GeneralKofi Annan was issued by the Spokesman on 23 December:

I welcome the General Assembly’s adoption of the 2006/2007 biennial budget for the United Nations.

The budget agreed upon today will enable the Organization to continue its work uninterrupted while Member States pursue the reform proposals adopted during the 2005 World Summit.

Reform is well under way and will continue with increased momentum.  By the end of the first quarter of next year, I will put forward management reform proposals for the Secretariat for consideration by the General Assembly.

I wish to thank all the delegations that worked on this budget in a spirit of compromise.
