Note to Correspondents

PALESTINIAN CULTURAL EXHIBIT TO BE ON VIEW AT HEADQUARTERS, 29 NOVEMBER TO 10 DECEMBER 2004

A cultural exhibit presented by the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People in cooperation with the Permanent Observer Mission of Palestine to the United Nations will be opened at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, 29 November, in the Public Lobby of the General Assembly building.  It is organized in connection with the annual observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.

The theme of this year’s exhibit is “Steadfast in Palestine”, which depicts the artistic versatility, as well as resilience of the Palestinian people.  It is a collection of different artistic media, including paintings, sculptures, photographs and installations, brought together by the League of Palestinian Artists.

The exhibit will be opened by Paul Badji (Senegal), Chairman of the Palestinian Rights Committee.  A statement will also be made by the representative of Palestine.  The President of the General Assembly, the Secretary-General, the President of the Security Council, all permanent representatives to the United Nations, and high-level Secretariat officials have been invited to the opening ceremony, which is expected to last about 45 minutes.

The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is observed in accordance with the provisions of General Assembly resolution 32/40 B of 2 December 1977.
