NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF VIET NAM PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Le Luong Minh, the new Permanent Representative of Viet Nam to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary-General Kofi Annan.

The new envoy has been in his country’s foreign service since 1975, after graduating from the Institute of Foreign Affairs in Hanoi and the NehruUniversity in New Delhi.  Since that time, he has served in the Ministry in different capacities, including as Deputy Director-General, then as Director-General for International Organizations and as Director-General for Multilateral Economic Cooperation.

He served as Viet Nam’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva from 1995 to 1997 and as Deputy Permanent Representative at United Nations Headquarters in New York from 1997 to 1999.

Born in 1952, he is married and has two daughters.
