IRAQ SANCTIONS COMMITTEE ISSUES CLARIFICATION ON DIPLOMATIC IMMUNITY FROM SANCTIONS REGIME

The following was issued today by the Security Council Committee established by resolution 661 (1990) (Iraq Sanctions Committee):

At its 164th meeting, held on 9 December, the Security Council Committee established by resolution 661 (1990) concerning the situation between Iraq and Kuwait considered a communication concerning clarification on whether any imports for the exclusive use of diplomatic missions and their staff members, including the personal baggages of the diplomatic staff in Baghdad, are exempt from the sanctions against Iraq. The Committee was of the view that the trade and financial measures imposed by the Security Council were not applicable to diplomatic missions in Iraq and their staff.
