THE ROYAL NAVY PHOTOGRAPHIC COMPETITON - THE PEREGRINE TROPHY
The Royal Navy''s annual photographic competition, the Peregrine Trophy has been won by 800 Naval Air Squadron based at the Royal Naval Air Station at Yeovilton in Somerset.
The trophy, now in its 37th year, is awarded to the RN Photographic Section submitting the best portfolio of six photographs depicting the Royal Navy at work over the last 12 months. Many of these images are wired back from operations involving naval forces, worldwide. The pictures are of such a high standard that, many are used by national, regional and specialist media.
The judges this year were: Mr Ray Wells, Picture Editor of the Sunday Times, Mr Jim Lowe, President of the British Institute of Professional Photographers and Captain Andrew Cameron Royal Navy, Assistant Director Ethnic Minority Recruiting at Director Naval Recruiting in Portsmouth.
In all over 250 images were entered into the competition showing all aspects of life in the Naval Service. In addition to the Peregrine Trophy, sponsored by Gretag Imaging UK Ltd, there are nine other awards sponsored by many of the lead companies in the photographic industry including: Agfa, Ilford, Kodak, Fuji, Hasselblad, Nikon and the KJP group. The Marconi Marine Prize for the best amateur photograph will also be awarded. The awards will be presented by, the First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Michael Boyce GCB OBE ADC at HMS President in London on Monday 11 October.
