Today, Monday 15 October, Jonathan Shaw Minister for the South East, visited Portsmouth. This was one of the first visits Jonathan has made to the region since taking on the role of South East Minister.
Jonathan began his tour at Portsmouth Naval Base where he met with staff and learned about the scope of work undertaken by the Base. It was also a chance for Jonathan to find out about the key role that Portsmouth plays as a major Naval Seaport.
Jonathan continued the visit at the Spinnaker Tower's view deck one where he was met by members of the Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH). It was an opportunity for Jonathan to learn more about the growth aspirations for South Hampshire and discuss the need for additional housing in the area, which he outlined as one of his top priorities in his ministerial position.
The final area visited by Jonathan was Gunwharf Quays where he attended a Round table to discuss the issues of regenerating Portsmouth and the strong vision for its future.

"I have found this visit to Portsmouth very interesting and have gained a great amount of knowledge about what is important to the people of South Hampshire.
"I was delighted to have been given the opportunity to visit some of the key landmarks in one of the South East's main cities. I am thrilled to have been given the role of South East Minister and having been a resident of the region my whole life, I look forward to learning more about the key issues across all the counties."
