Search for missing teenager taking place on the Isles of Scilly

Thursday 17:33

At 10 o' clock this morning Falmouth Coastguard received a call from a worried relative of a 17 year old boy.

He reported that his brother had not been seen since 8 o' clock the night before. Falmouth Coastguard called out the St' Mary's, Tresco and Bryhers Coastguard Rescue Teams and requested the launch of the St. Mary's RNLI lifeboat, six local boats and scrambled a rescue helicopter.

Police and fire units based on the islands are also involved in the search. There has been an extensive search throughout the day covering all the islands including the remote uninhabited ones.

The search involved all inland areas such as farm outbuildings and barns. The land based search has now been scaled down and the sea search continues.

Simon Rabbett, Falmouth Rescue Coordination Centre Manager said:

"This has been a combined effort by all search units to locate this young boy. With limited information apart from a description of the teenager we have covered extensively the Isles of Scilly. We will continue with a search of the seas around the islands. Anyone with any information please contact the Coastguard or the Police."
