Search for man in rough seas off Padstow

Sunday 18:30

Falmouth Coastguards are this afternoon coordinating a search for a person swept into the sea at Trevone Bay, near Padstow.

At 16.10 a 999 call was received at the Marine Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Falmouth reporting that a man, in his 20s, had been washed off the rocks by heavy surf and was struggling in the water with several members of the public attempting to give assistance. The man was reported to be wearing only shorts and a long sleeved top.

A rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose was immediately scrambled along with St Merryn Coastguard rescue team & Padstow RNLI lifeboat. All are now searching the area.

Weather conditions are very severe with a 3 to 4 metre swell and strong westerly winds.
