Search for man feared drowned in the Thames

London Coastguard warns against drinking and drowning after a man is believed drowned in the Thames near Isleworth this afternoon.

At 2.30pm London Coastguard were alerted by the Police that a 35 year old man had disappeared under the water after a lot to drink near a pub in Isleworth and had not been seen to surface again.The alarm was raised by his friend who had been drinking in the pub with the missing man.

London Coastguard launched an extensive search of the River from Isleworth to Chiswick involving RNLI lifeboats from Chiswick and Teddington, a police helicopter and a Port of London launch. Police divers also assisted in the search but no sign of the man was found and sadly he is missing presumed drowned.

Phil Myers, London Coastguard Operations Manager said:

"Sadly, all realistic hope has gone of finding a survivor in the water. As people head out for a night of fun please don't let the night become a tragedy. Don't drink and drown."
