RESURFACING ON M1 MOTORWAY JUNCTION 12 TO JUNCTION 13 NORTHBOUND
Overnight resurfacing work between junctions 12 and 13 of the northbound M1 in Bedfordshire will start on Monday 7 January 2002, the Highways Agency announced today.
The £580,000 scheme, which is expected to take four weeks to complete (subject to weather conditions), will repair an 8km length of lane 1 of the northbound carriageway to eliminate rutting and reduce road surface noise.
During the works, the northbound entry slip road at Junction 12, and the northbound exit slip road at Junction 13 will be closed overnight, between 11.00pm and 5.30am Monday to Friday night. Traffic will be diverted via Junction 11. In addition, the northbound carriageway will be reduced to two lanes throughout the works, and a 50mph speed limit will be in force. All traffic management will be removed during the day and at weekends, with all lanes open.
Highways Agency Project Manager David Lee said:
"The sliproad closures and lane restrictions are necessary for the works to be carried out safely and quickly. This resurfacing work is part of the Highways Agency''s commitment to maintaining and improving the motorway and trunk road network. Although we are making every attempt to keep disruption to a minimum by carrying out works overnight, we advise drivers to allow extra time for their journeys".
The Highways Agency reminds drivers that accidents, particularly nose-to-tail collisions, are more likely to occur when roadworks are in operation. Drivers should take extra care, stay well behind the vehicle in front, obey all signs and allow extra time for journeys.
