Douglas Alexander, Minister of State for Trade, Investment and Foreign Affairs today told the Public Private Partnership Global Summit in Prague how the UK has pioneered value for money on public service provision.
Mr Alexander said: "Strong and dependable public services are at the foundation of a flexible and productive economy. In the UK, Public Private Partnership, plays an important role in the government's agenda to deliver high quality public services.
"By structuring an effective partnership between the public and private sectors, and sharing the risks, the government achieves best value for money and delivers more projects on time, and within budget.
"Since 1997 the total investment undertaken under signed PFI projects to date amounts to £40 billion across a range of sectors including schools, hospitals, prisons and roads."
