Overnight closures for resurfacing on A63 at Melton, Hull

Thursday 11:00

As part of the junction improvement scheme there will be overnight closures for resurfacing on the A63 at Melton near Hull over the next two weekends. The old traffic signals will be removed at the same time.

The A63 will be closed overnight in both directions between South Cave and the Humber Bridge:

* From 6pm Saturday 9 December to 10am Sunday 10 December * From 6pm Saturday 16 December to 10am Sunday 17 December.

Through traffic will be diverted via Market Weighton and Beverley, using the A1034 and A1079. Signed diversion routes will also be in place for local traffic travelling to North Ferriby and Welton. Drivers are advised to allow an additional 30 minutes for their journeys.

Highways Agency project manager Steve Sexton said:

"The A63 will be closed overnight during the next two weekends so that our contractors can carry out resurfacing work at the western end of the route and remove traffic signal gantries at the former Gibson Lane junction. The work is being carried out at weekends and overnight when traffic flows are lower. The junction improvement scheme is due to be completed early next year."

Safe driving at roadworks During 2005, five workers were killed and 12 seriously injured in the course of their work on Highways Agency roads. This was the worst year for 5 years. For the safety of all road users and roadworkers, drivers approaching roadworks are advised to: * Keep within the speed limit - it is there for your safety. * Get into the correct lane in good time - don't keep switching. * Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks. * Be alert for works' traffic leaving or entering roadworks. * Keep a safe distance - there could be queues in front. * Observe all signs - they are there to help you.
