OVERNIGHT SLIP ROAD CLOSURES ON A14 IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE FROM TUESDAY 1 JULY
Sliproads on the A14 in Northamptonshire will be closed for one night in July to allow for the installation of traffic detector loops on four junctions.
Installation work will start on Tuesday 1 July 2003 and last until Saturday 5 July and will affect the following sliproads:
Junction 10 Burton Latimer (Eastbound sliproad off A14 onto A6) 10pm Tuesday 1 July to 5am Wednesday 2 July
Junction 8 Kettering (Eastbound sliproad off A14 onto A43 and A6013) 10pm Tuesday 1 July to 5pm Wednesday 2 July
Junction 9 Kettering (Westbound sliproad off A14 onto A509 10pm Wednesday 2 July to 5am Thursday 3 July
Junction 13 Thrapston (Westbound sliproad off A14 onto A45) 10pm Friday 4 July to 5am Saturday 5 July
Neil Doherty, Highways Agency Project Sponsor, said:
"These closures will allow for the safe installation of the traffic detector loops in the surface of the slip roads. These new detector loops will form part of a network of similar loops being installed across the motorway and trunk road network in England and are designed to monitor traffic movements.
"Drivers wishing to use the slip roads will need to follow local diversions, which will be signed for the duration of the works. A further two detector loops are to be installed on slip roads on the A14 later in July. The public will be informed of these once the dates have been confirmed."
Notes to Editors
1. The Highways Agency is an Executive Agency of the Department for Transport which manages, maintains and improves the network of trunk roads and motorways in England on behalf of the Secretary of State. It works closely with other transport operators and with local authorities to integrate the trunk road network with the rest of England''s roads and other forms of transport. More information is available at http://www.highways.gov.uk
2. The work is being undertaken by Crown Cutting Services Ltd of Staffordshire and supervised by Serco Ltd on behalf of the Highways Agency.
3. Eleven roadworkers were killed by traffic in Highways Agency roadworks between October 2000 and February 2002. This equates to a roadworker having a 1 in 1000 chance of being killed in a 16 month period. The Highways Agency, with the support of the Driving Standards Agency and the Department for Transport, has created six messages to raise driver awareness to help prevent accidents:
* Keep to the speed limit - it is there for your safety * Get into the correct lane in good time - don''t keep switching * Concentrate on the road ahead, not the roadworks * Be alert for works traffic leaving or entering roadworks * Keep a safe distance - there could be queues in front * Observe all signs - they are there to help you.
