NEW YEARS HONOURS AND AWARDS

172 UK Armed Forces and Defence staff have been granted State honours by Her Majesty The Queen in her annual New Years Honours list which was published today.

Secretary of State for Defence, John Reid, said:

"I am delighted that Her Majesty has recognised the outstanding contributions made by so many members of the Armed Forces and Defence staff. Their professionalism and commitment continues unabated across the board. These individuals' efforts have stood out among many first class people as being truly exceptional. It is right they receive appropriate recognition. I am immensely proud of their achievements and congratulate them all."

1. The list comprises 131 Armed Forces personnel and 41 Ministry of Defence (MOD) civil servants and MOD sponsored personnel.

2. Awards to are published on in the London Gazette. The ranks and other personal details shown are those current at the time the awards were recommended.
