Londoners should remain alert but calm in the wake of the incidents currently affecting central areas of the capital.
Reshard Auladin, MPA deputy chair, said this evening:
*The Metropolitan Police Service is doing everything they can to minimise danger and disruption.
*The actions by officers earlier today, making safe a potentially lethal explosive device at great personal danger, is typical of the selfless dedication to duty that our officers display on so many occasions.
*The Authority commends and thanks them on behalf of Londoners.
*People should be confident that the police are working round the clock to ensure their safety and to enable the capital to carry on as normal.
*The MPA maintains close contact with London boroughs and, together with borough commanders, will be working closely with community representatives to reassure people.
*The overall message is remain calm but vigilant. If you see anything suspicious ring the confidential anti terrorist hotline on 0800 789 321.
