Lord Drayson, Minister for Business in the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) visits Plymouth today (2 November) to listen to business concerns on regulation and promote better regulation.
The Government's better regulation agenda is one of the most ambitious in the world and is aimed at eliminating obsolete and inefficient regulation, achieving user-friendly and effective new regulation and tackling inconsistencies in the way regulations are delivered.
During his visit, Lord Drayson will meet 20 of the city's leading business people, members of Plymouth Chamber of Commerce, and officials from BERR and the Health and Safety Executive who will all take part in a 'regulators' surgery' at Wrigley's in Plymouth.
Lord Drayson said:
"As someone with almost 20 years experience in business, I have first-hand experience of many of the pressures involved in running and growing a business.
"The Government recognises the problem of 'red tape' and is committed to reducing the burden through better regulation.
"We have pledged to cut the cost to business of administering regulation by a quarter by 2010 - fewer forms to fill in, lighter touch inspections, reduced requests for information and regulating only when necessary.
"That's why I'm delighted to be here today on behalf of the Government, listening to business owners in the south west, making sure we are renewing and refreshing our knowledge on the barriers that businesses face today."
NOTES FOR EDITORS
