M27 JUNCTION 4 NEAR SOUTHAMPTON, HAMPSHIRE GETS NEW SIGNS

Wednesday 14:01

New information signs, which display up-to-date information for drivers have been installed along the M27 between Junctions 4 and 9, near Southampton, Hampshire, so the Highways Agency is ready to remove the old signs.

To remove the old signs safely, there will be two overnight closures of the eastbound at Junction 4 on the M27 on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 November 2005.

For the safety of road users and the workforce, the removal of these signs will take place overnight from 22.00pm to 05.30pm when traffic flows are lower.

A fully signed diversion route will be in place overnight. Drivers travelling eastbound along the M27 will need to exit at Junction 4 taking the link northbound to the M3. They will be directed to turn around at M3 Junction 13 and travel southbound to rejoin the M27 eastbound carriageway at Junction 4.

Highways Agency project manager, Guy Berresford said:

"The new signs between Junctions 4 and 9 of the M27 give road users the latest technology available. These old signs are no longer in use and need to be removed. We need to close the M27 at night, when traffic flows are at their lowest, so that the work crews can undertake the work in safety."

"We are doing the work at the weekend and overnight to avoid the busiest times for traffic. We advise drivers to allow extra time for their journeys."
