BRITISH MISSIONS IN YEMEN TO CLOSE TO THE PUBLIC

YEMEN

FROM 1 MARCH 2003

The Foreign Office today revised its Travel Advice for Yemen to advise that from 1 March 2003 the British Embassy in Sana''a and the Consulate General in Aden will be closed to the public. At the same time, the Foreign Office is withdrawing all but a small complement of staff from Yemen. The Foreign Office is taking this step in light of the deteriorating security situation.

The Foreign Office already advises against all travel to Yemen and that those British nationals already in Yemen should consider leaving. The Embassy and Consulate General will be able to offer only limited consular assistance to those who choose to remain.
