The Highways Agency is giving drivers advance warning of the Principal Inspection (PI) for the A14 Orwell Bridge, near Ipswich in Suffolk, which will start on Saturday 4 June and is expected to take eight weeks to complete.
During the safety inspection there will be 24-hour single lane closures in both directions on the A14 Orwell Bridge, with a 24-hour 40mph speed restriction. These will be in place to ensure the safety of road users and workers on site.
The PI is carried out every six years on Orwell Bridge to check the safety of the structure and to establish whether further maintenance is needed. This is the fourth PI to be carried out on the Orwell Bridge, which was built in 1982.
More details will be provided nearer to the start of the inspection.
