£7.1 MILLION MAJOR MAINTENANCE AND CLIMBING LANE M25

EHA118/01

JUNCTION 27 TO 28

Major maintenance work to ease congestion and reduce noise on the M25 between Junction 27, M11 and Junction 28, Brentwood, will begin on Saturday 14 July.

The work involves the construction of a new climbing lane on the clockwise carriageway, the replacement of existing surfacing with low-noise surfacing on both carriageways, renewal of safety barriers, including a new concrete central reserve barrier, and drainage improvements.

In order to minimise any disruption to the travelling public all lanes will be kept open to traffic during the daytime. As a further measure to reduce delays, lane closures will only take place at night. There will be occasional night-time closures of some slip roads at Junction 27. A contraflow system will be put in place with a 50 mph speed limit throughout the works.

Highways Agency Project Manager Adam Joseph said:

"Work will be carried out round the clock seven days a week in order to keep disruption and inconvenience down to a minimum. Once complete the improvements will reduce congestion and journey times for the travelling public and noise for local residents.

"While road works are taking place road users should take particular care to obey the speed limit and other signs. They should also allow additional time for their journeys."

The work is due for completion at the end of September 2001.
