November 2006 compared to October 2006 Industrial producer prices stable in euro area Up by 0.2% in EU25
The euro area (EA12)1 industrial producer price index2 remained unchanged in November 2006 compared to October 2006, while EU251 prices increased by 0.2%. In October3 prices remained unchanged in the euro area and gained 0.3% in the EU25.
In November 2006 compared to November 2005, industrial producer prices rose by 4.3% in the euro area and by 3.7% in the EU25.

Monthly changes
In November 2006, compared to the previous month, prices in total industry excluding the energy sector rose by 0.1% in both the euro area and the EU25. Prices in the energy sector fell by 0.3% in the euro area, but increased by 0.4% in the EU25. Intermediate goods gained 0.1% and 0.2% respectively. Capital goods increased by 0.1% in the euro area and remained stable in the EU25. In both zones durable consumer goods remained unchanged. Non-durable consumer goods fell by 0.1% in the euro area and remained stable in the EU25.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases were registered in the United Kingdom (+1.2%), Slovakia (+0.4%) and Finland (+0.3%). The largest decreases were recorded in Denmark (-2.0%), Greece and Hungary (both -0.5%). Prices in Germany, Spain, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal and Slovenia remained unchanged.
Annual changes
In November 2006, compared to November 2005, and excluding the energy sector, industrial prices increased by 3.5% in both the euro area and the EU25. Prices in the energy sector rose by 6.9% and 4.4% respectively. Intermediate goods gained 6.2% in both the euro area and the EU25. Capital goods increased by 1.9% in the euro area and by 1.8% in the EU25. Durable consumer goods rose by 1.7% and 1.6% respectively, and non-durable consumer goods gained 1.6% in both zones.
Prices increased in all Member States for which data are available. The highest increases were observed in Luxembourg (+15.6%), Hungary (+9.4%) and Finland (+6.1%), and the lowest in Ireland (+0.2%), Denmark (+1.2%) and the United Kingdom (+1.3%).
The euro area (EA12) consisted of 12 Member States up to 31 December 2006: Belgium, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Portugal and Finland. From 1 January 2007 the euro area (EA13) also includes Slovenia.Up to 31 December 2006 the European Union (EU25) included: Belgium (BE), the Czech Republic (CZ), Denmark (DK), Germany (DE), Estonia (EE), Greece (EL), Spain (ES), France (FR), Ireland (IE), Italy (IT), Cyprus (CY), Latvia (LV), Lithuania (LT), Luxembourg (LU), Hungary (HU), Malta (MT), the Netherlands (NL), Austria (AT), Poland (PL), Portugal (PT), Slovenia (SI), Slovakia (SK), Finland (FI), Sweden (SE) and the United Kingdom (UK). From 1 January 2007 the European Union (EU27) also includes Bulgaria (BG) and Romania (RO).
As part of Eurostat's guidelines for the dissemination of data when the EU or euro area is enlarged, the aggregate data series commented on in this News Release refer to the official composition of the EU and euro area in the most recent month for which data is available. Thus News Releases with data for months up to December 2006 will comment on EA12/EU25 series, while Releases with data for January 2007 onwards will comment on EA13/EU27 series.

The index of producer prices shows (in the national currency of the country concerned) changes in the ex-works sale prices of all products sold on the domestic markets of the various countries, excluding imports. Euro area and EU indices refer to overall weighted price changes. The figures are not adjusted. Missing observations from Member States for the calculation of the euro area and the EU are estimated. Data of previous months have been revised compared to those issued in News Release 157/2006 of 4 December 2006. The monthly growth rate for October 2006 for total industry excluding construction for the euro area however remains the same. The monthly growth rate for the EU25 previously published was +0.2%. The annual growth rates remain the same in both areas.
