Mergers: Commission approves acquisition by T-Systems of IT service provider Gedas The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition by T-Systems (headquartered in Germany) of German IT service provider Gedas AG. The Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.
T-Systems is a global provider of a wide range of IT services to German and international companies and non-profit organisations. It runs most of the IT operations of its parent Deutsche Telekom.
Gedas, part of the Volkswagen group, also offers IT services, mainly to companies active in the manufacturing and automotive industries. Gedas predominantly provides services to other parts of the Volkswagen group.
The Commission’s examination has revealed that the transaction would have no significant effect on competition for these services. Both companies achieve a substantial part of their revenues from sales within their respective groups, thereby further reducing the impact of the transaction on the IT services market.
