09:45-10:00 Speech at opening of ‘Second EU Restructuring Forum’, an event focusing on sector-driven restructuring in the manufacturing industry. Venue: Bedford Hotel, 135-137 Rue du Midi, 1000 Brussels.

10:00-10:15 Meeting with Christos SIRROS, head of the General delegation of Québec in Brussels. The Canadian state wants to strengthen links with the Committee of the Regions and European counterparts with legislative power such as Bavaria, Catalonia, Wallonia and Scotland. Venue: Bedford Hotel.

11:00-11:30 Press Conference with Vladimír ŠPIDLA, Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, on restructuring and mobility. For more information, click here. Venue: Berlaymont Press Room.

11:30-12:00 Press Conference with Danuta HÜBNER, Commissioner for Regional Policy, to launch the fourth annual OPEN DAYS European Week of Regions and Cities. For more information, see www.cor.europa.eu. Venue: Berlaymont Press Room.

12:15-13:00 Debate Europe podcast recording. The Debate Europe website, launched in March 2006 to encourage the public to discuss ideas, hopes and fears about Europe’s future, reached one million hits this month. For more information, see www.europa.eu/debateeurope. Venue: Berlaymont.

14:15-14:45 Meeting with Latin Arc delegation, representing regional and local authorities in France, Spain, Italy and Portugal. The delegation comprises André VEZINHET, President of the Latin Arc and President of the Conseil Général of L’Hérault (France), Jean BOMBIN, Conseil Général of Var (France),  Celestino CORBACHO, President of the Diputació (provincial council) of Barcelona (Spain), and Roberto DERIU, President of the province of Nuoro (Italy). Venue: Committee of the Regions.

16:00-16:30 First official meeting with European Commission President José Manuel BARROSO. Themes are likely to include the OPEN DAYS European Week of Regions and Cities, implementation of the updated cooperation agreement with the Commission and the CoR’s new Lisbon Network, aimed at giving regions and cities more say over the jobs and growth strategy. Venue: Berlaymont.
