The European Commission has appointed a new Head of Representation in Latvia

Ms Iveta Šulca has been appointed as the new Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Latvia. She takes up her duties on 1 August 2006.

Ms Šulca has a distinguished record in the Latvian Foreign Service and extensive knowledge of EU affairs. Prior to joining the European Commission, she was Under-secretary of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before that, Iveta Šulca served as Latvian ambassador to the Czech Republic and Republic of Croatia. She holds a degree in international economic relations as well as an MBA from the University of Latvia.

The Representation is the official voice of the European Commission in Latvia. It is responsible for explaining policies of the European Union and making Europe more understandable and closer to people, a priority of the current Commission and its Vice-President Margot Wallström.

It addresses the national media and provides information about Europe through recognised outlets such as the “Europe Direct” relays. Its mission also includes providing information to the Commission on the country concerned. The offices of the European Commission Representation in Latvia together with the European Parliament Information Office and the European Union Information Agency are located in the “EU house” on Aspazijas bulvāris 28, Riga.
