An EU Civilian Instruments Workshop (CIVIL 06) will be organised in Brussels on 19-20 April 2006 in the framework of the European security and defence policy (ESDP). It is the first civilian only exercise-related activity organised by the EU in the framework of ESDP.

The aim of the Workshop is to examine ways to enhance rapid deployment of ESDP civilian capabilities, in order to contribute to the overall rapid response capability of the EU.

The workshop will specifically address rapid deployment of the following civilian capabilities:

    Rapidly deployable police elements, including headquarters, integrated police units (IPUs), formed police units (FPUs), specialised teams and individual police officers; Civilian response teams (CRTs); Civilian integrated missions (i.e. missions using 2 or more civilian instruments, e.g. Police and Rule of Law).

The workshop will be open to participants from EU Member States, the European Commission and the EU Council Secretariat. Attendees from certain Third States and International Organisations will also be invited.
