Competition: European Commissioner for Competition Neelie Kroes meets Mr Tremonti European Commissioner for Competition Neelie Kroes met Mr Tremonti, Italian Minister for Finance, at the Commission’s Brussels headquarters on 28th February 2006. Mr Tremonti informed Mrs Kroes of the Italian Government’s initial views as regards the situation further to the announced merger between Suez and Gaz de France.
Commissioner Kroes noted that the European Commission had not received any notification under the EC Merger Control Regulation at this point in time. She was therefore unable to comment at this stage regarding any possible impact on effective competition resulting from the proposed merger. Mrs Kroes also made clear that the Commission will thoroughly and impartially analyse any takeover bid involving Suez if and when notified in accordance with EC Merger Control Regulation, as is the Commission’s practice for all cases notified under the Regulation.
