NSW Government creates climate change departments

NSW Minister for Climate Change, Environment and Water, Phil Koperburg, today (May 1, 2007) announced the creation of two new government departments to focus on combating climate change.

The Department of Climate Change (DECC) and Department of Water and Energy (DWE) will help implement the state's response to cimate variation, and Mr Koperburg says it shows how serious the Iemma Government is about reducing the causes of climate change and mitigating its effects.

He says the DECC will continue with its environmental protection and conservation work as well its reponsibility for climate change, and the DWE will continue the work started by the former Department of Natural Resources and Department of Energy, Utilities and Sustainability.
